ABOUT CYSTINOSIS
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Cystinosis is a rare and incurable disease that affects 2,000 patients around the world.
Cystinosis is a disease characterized by the accumulation of the amino acid cystine (a building block of proteins) within cells but has no transporter out. Because of this defect excess cystine damages cells and often forms crystals that can build up and cause organ & tissue damage leading to early cell death.Â
Cystinosis slowly destroys the organs in the body including the kidneys, liver, eyes, muscles and the brain.
